Hackney Shed is looking for a group of young people aged 17–25 (up to 30 if you are disabled) who would like to gain experience in creative facilitation. We actively encourage applicants who are Disabled and/or Neurodivergent.

This opportunity is for young people interested in developing skills in leading performing arts workshops — particularly drama, but also the arts more broadly. We are looking for a group of creative, empathetic individuals who are interested in leadership, collaborative arts practice and working with other young people.

This initial opportunity will take place over one week, with the intention of offering further opportunities afterwards. Participants will begin with a full day of training covering safeguarding, inclusive practice and drama games, before supporting as assistant facilitators on a Cabaret in a Week project for 15–25-year-olds, the majority of whom will have a learning disability and/or be neurodivergent.

You do not need previous experience in facilitation or performance — just a willingness to learn, collaborate and explore the performing arts.

Future Facilitators is not just training — it’s a pathway into inclusive creative leadership.

You will develop skills in:

  • leadership
  • creative facilitation
  • inclusive arts practice
  • collaborative working
  • supporting young people in creative spaces

What we can offer:

  • Training in safeguarding, facilitation and inclusive practice
  • Practical experience supporting workshops and activities
  • Opportunities to lead and support in a creative environment
  • Daily check-ins and mentoring from lead facilitators
  • The chance to work alongside professional artists and theatre-makers
  • Insight into participatory arts and youth work
  • Opportunities to reflect, share ideas and learn with peers
  • Lunch provided and travel reimbursed
  • A DBS check

What we’re looking for:

  • Availability for the full week, including the training day
  • Enthusiasm for performing arts, leadership and collaborative working
  • A willingness to learn and grow through the experience
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • A commitment to inclusive and non-judgemental practice

THIS IS NOT A PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY – this is particularly for young people interested in facilitating and leading workshops – you may end up performing in the final show, but that is not the focus of the Future Facilitators programme.
